Webinar: Subsurface Exploration with HPC, June 2, 2021

Webinar invitation_Subsurface exploration with HPC.pdf

Dear MATHDATA Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to the Webinar “Subsurface exploration with HPC”, an event the Barcelona Supercomputing Center will host within the frame of the ENERXICO project, a Europe-Mexico collaboration that aims to develop performance simulation tools that require exascale High-performance computing (HPC) and data intensive algorithms for differentenergy sources.

HPC has been a key enabling technology for subsurface exploration. In the webinar, we will outline major developments both in HPC and Geophysics and the role of the ENERXICO project in fostering new findings. The event will take place on 2 June 2021 at 2:30pm (CEST) and will comprise a first section with three panelists presenting state-of-the-art results on this topic (20’ presentation plus 10’ open questions). Later there will be a roundtable discussion about the importance and developments in HPC and Geophysics. Finally, we will carry out a fun quiz for all attendees.

Sincerely,

ENRERXICO team

Octavo Congreso Metropolitano de Modelado y Simulación Numérica 2021 (5-7 Mayo 2021)

Organización de Mini-symposium (Febrero - Marzo 2021)

"MS 5-1: Advances in machine learning and model reduction for inversion in geophysical and geological applications" at the Mechanistic Machine Learning and Digital Twins for Computational Science, Engineering and Technology (MMLDT-CSET) Conference (https://mmldt.eng.ucsd.edu/home). The conference will be held in a hybrid format and at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, San Diego, California from September 26 to 29, 2021.

Minisymposium Title: Advances in machine learning and model reduction for inversion in geophysical and geological applications (Track 8: Geosystems, Geostatistics, and Petroleum Engineering).

Description: We welcome contributions on Machine Learning and Model Reduction algorithms intended to efficiently invert measurements relevant for geophysical and geological applications. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Data cleansing and clustering

- Pattern recognition for target and facies identification

- Deep learning for inference from data and data assimilation

- Support-vector machines for site classification

- Production and net-present-value estimates from seismic data

- Real-time inversion of borehole resistivity measurements using Machine Learning

- Design of efficient measurement acquisition systems using Machine Learning for geophysics.

The abstract submission is open during February 1 - March 31, 2021. The hybrid nature of this conference means that all participants will have the option to present remotely or on-site.

Organizers:

David Pardo - Univ. of the Basque Country, Spain, member of MATHDATA.

Organización de Mini-symposium (Febrero 2021)

Dear MathData Colleagues,

On behalf of the organizing mini-symposium committee "MS6-B: Interfacial phenomena in multiphase systems", we are pleased to share with you the Call for oral and feature poster (+pitch) in mini-symposium (MS6-B) "Interfacial phenomena in multiphase systems" for 13th InterPore2021-Online, 31 May 2021 to 3 June 2021 (Europe/Berlin timezone); please, see attached the most recent conference flyer (PDF file InterPore2021 Flyer3.pdf)

and the link  https://events.interpore.org/event/25/page/223-online-conference-format

InterPore2021: Call for abstracts.

Without a strong and diverse group of abstracts it will not be possible for us to maintain the type of experience  InterPore annual conference attendees have come to expect. Please transfer this message to colleagues around you that could be interested.

Aim & Scope(MS6-B):

The existence of fluid-fluid interfaces poses numerous scientific complexities to multiphase flow problems at different scales. This challenge is relevant to many porous media applications, in particular in geoscience and engineering ones. Examples can be found in foam and (chemical) EOR methods, in conventional and unconventional subsurface formations. As for its specific multidisciplinary nature, we establish a separate mini-symposium on this subject, aiming to bring together porous media scientists of different applications and disciplines (numerical, experimental and real field experts) to share

their state-of-the-art findings and challenges in this mini-symposium.

Dates: Opening and Submission deadline

-- Opening day: 2 Dec 2020, 14:20

-- Submission EXTENDED deadline to February 15th (midnight Pacific Time)

InterPore2021-Online (31 May 2021 to 3 June 2021): Also note that the program for this year will be different from InterPore2020 in that oral presenters will give a 10-minute presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q&A during the live sessions. Oral presentations will also be pre-recorded and uploaded 10 days before the conference to allow viewing by those unable to attend live sessions. InterPore2021 will also feature poster (+pitch) presentations.

More details on the conference format can be found at https://events.interpore.org/event/25/page/223-online-conference-format.

Sincerely,

Organizing mini-symposium committee (MS6-B: Interfacial phenomena in multiphase systems)
